My Vow

I shall never forget,
never forget
the way you've treated me.

Pretending I'm not here
one day deciding
I don't deserve your words.

You took them with you too
my supposed friends so easily swayed
my ties to them shaky at best.

Your ice blue eyes apathetic
showing no emotion to me
no regrets I suppose.

It's hard not to ask you
"What did I do?"
"Why do you feel I deserve this?"

But I don't ask
because I know
I simply don't deserve this.

If it were up to me
we wouldn't throw this away so eagerly
but it's not up to me now.

It's not even up to you
because the deciding has been done
the ties dissolved.

The tie we created
our small group together forever
found out forever's not so long and ties break clean.

No more lying on the trampoline
talking until darkness descended
perfect end to the summer.

Lying there that afternoon
could any of us have seen this
two months, a lifetime, an ending?

The tie isn't simply broken
broken would suggest repair
it is simply gone.

And I vow not to forget
if your words ever come again
I'll take them for what they are.

The words of a stranger.
Sad but true poem. I wish friends could just stay your friends and not dissolve ties without at least explaining to you why.
